Integrated Health
"Where Human Individuality Matters”

"Hello and welcome to our clinic website , Integrated health is not only a clinic to me but representative of my own growth as a Integrative Healthcare Practitioner. The concept of integrated healthcare came to me during practice when I noticed people needed different forms of healthcare , often in combination to achieve best results . I also noticed that there was a lack of understanding by patients and practitoners as to which modality or combination of modalities best suit certain people with ill-health. I therefore made it my mission to qualify in many areas of healthcare and to create a place to help educate those on what is best for their health Most importantly I have created a place for healing and wellbeing and one that acknowledges your own individuality in order to provide the best all round healthcare for you "

So What is Integrative Medicine and Healthcare?

Simply the practice of Integrative Medicine is to provide the best possible healthcare and solutions utilising traditional wisdom and knowledge, modern science and the latest technology. The term Integrative Medicine was coined due to the re-emergence of the complementary or alternative medicine to describe a practice of combining both orthodox medical practices and complementary medicine for healthcare , I guess you could say it is applying the best of both worlds in order to give the best possible treatment for the patient at hand .

Even though the term Integrative Medicine seems relatively new, the practice of Integrative Medicine dates back to early healers such as the Father of Medicine, Hippocrates, and other innovators such as BJ Palmer the father of Chiropractic where it was common practice to Integrate treatments to give the best possible healthcare for their patients. I guess you could say this is a sign of a true healer , one who continues in search to better their practices in order to help their patients with the most appropriate non invasive, safest treatment possible .

.An Integrative Medicine Pracitioner (IMP) is therefore one who utilises the best of Orthodox and complementary medicine whether it be by cross referal, or by direct application . Usually this kind of Practitioner has been exposed to many modalites and understands the benifits, application and limitations of these pracitices .

Naturopathy is a treatment system that utilizes natural resources to help the body heal itself. Hippocrates. the Greek father of medicine, himself utilized naturopathic medicine and principles in his healthcare system . He used fasting, diet, exercise and physical techniques in his treatments to strengthen the body, and aid it to fight and cure illness. He used them in such a way that by combining various disciplines, the improvement in the vitality of his patients would itself start the healing process.

It should be pointed out that a naturopath whilst knowledgeable about disease and its pathophysiology, do not directly treat the illness. The focus of the naturopath is more on the patient, and the patient’s vitality. Naturopaths believe that by enhancing the vitality of their patients the healing process is supported and strengthened, thus the patient is better equipped to fight their illness.

Today naturopathic physicians (ND`s) are seen as the general practitioners of natural medicine, this is due to their broad understanding of human health. Naturopaths undertake up to 5 years of full time study including a one-year clinical internship. The subjects studied include. nutritional medicine, evidence based herbal medicine, homoeopathy, remedial therapy, iridology, counseling, Bach medicine and medical sciences. After graduating, a naturopathic physician may choose to specialize in areas such as dark field microscopy (live blood analysis) , fertility management or in the area of sports and remedial therapies.

Your practitioner will take a thorough holistic medical history and examine your presenting symptoms in great detail physical examination is also performed. Various screening tools may also be used in order to give your practitioner a better understanding of your overall health, function and vitality. The types of screening tools used may include live blood cell analysis (LBA), Biofeedback analysis and iris diagnosis.

Once your practitioner has an overall view of your health a protocol is developed. Your program may involve a bowel or liver detox. dietary and lifestyle changes may also be implemented. Your practitioner may use evidenced based herbs, vitamins, homoeopathic medicines, and amino acids and may use soft tissue manipulation in the treatment protocol.

Homoeopathy like naturopathy is a system of natural medicine that treats the body as a whole and helps it heal itself. The name homoeopathy comes from the Greek word homios meaning like and pathos meaning suffering. Homeopathy therefore means treating like with like, ie this means that a substance that can cause symptoms in a healthy person can also cure similar symptoms in a sick person. It is different to allopathic or convential medicine where treatment of illness is with antidotes rather than with a substance that is similar to disease.

Homoeopathy first become prominant in the 19th century through German Physician Dr Samuel Hahnemann who pioneered homoeopathy. However it was the father of medicine himself Hippocrates who first introduced homoeopathic medicines into medical practice. Hippocrates` understanding of disease and how it affects the body was a major breakthrough in the development of homoeopathy. He believed that individuals symptoms, their disease expression, and their healing ability were crucial in diagnosing and treating disease. This philosophy remains the corner stone of modern homoeopathy today. .

On your first visit the homeopathic clinician will take a thorough medical history along with a detailed examination of your symptoms. The homoeopath will ask numerous questions about yourself and your lifestyle. The clinician will ask questions about, your family history, your mental and emotional balance, your spiritual beliefs and your diet.

Once your examination is complete a remedy is chosen. Your remedy is chosen based on the practitioners broad understanding of the information received from the first consultation. In choosing the remedy much attention is given to treatment of underlying cause as well as your presenting symptoms.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a natural healing art that stimulates the flow of Qi or Energy throughout the body so as to stabilize and rejuvenate the body mind and spirit and restore health. It is also very relaxing.

Acupuncture is part of an integrated system of primary health care, known as Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that has an uninterrupted history of development dating back thousands of years in China and other parts of East Asia.
Today, acupuncture is an effective, natural and  popular form of health care that is being used by people from all over the world..
Acupuncture treatment involves the insertion of fine, sterile needles into specific points along the body's meridians to clear energy blockages and encourage the normal flow of qi through the individual. The practitioner may also stimulate the acupuncture points using other methods, including moxibustion, cupping, laser therapy, electro-stimulation and massage, in order to re-establish the flow of qi.

Acupuncture is known to treat a wide range of disorders including:
Neurological conditions, Cardiovascular disorders, Respiratory conditions
Digestive system disorders, Musculoskeletal disorders, Sporting injuries
and Psychological conditions

REMEDIAL MASSAGE /MASSAGE THERAPY

So what is massage?
""Massage is the manipulation of the body’s soft tissues with specific techniques to promote and restore health"" (Nikki Bradford et al 1996 The Hamlyn Encyclopedia of Complementary Health)

Various tissues such as the muscles, ligaments and tendons can be directly treated with massage therapy. Combinations of various techniques are used to improve blood flow, increase or decrease muscle flexibility and deliver nutrition to injured or dysfunctional tissue sites. A key objective for the massage practitioner is to relax tight, tense muscles in order to restore their function. Such techniques may include, effleurage, muscle kneading, deep tissue therapy, myofascial stretching, trigger point therapy and muscle energy techniques.

There are many different forms of massage however the most well known massage therapy is remedial massage therapy. Most modern massage practitioners are first trained in remedial massage and then undertake further study in an area of interest such as myofascial therapy, structural integration and sports injury therapy.

Remedial Massage therapists undertake 1-3 years training depending on the institution of study, and must meet high standards before they can become a registered and insured practitioner. Some of the subjects studied include, anatomy and physiology, symptomatology and diagnosis, pathophysiology, postural analysis, sports medicine, biomechanics, remedial massage, exercise therapy, trigger point therapy and myofascial therapy.

On your first consultation, your therapist will record your history and discuss your reasons for your visit. The therapist will also perform a postural analysis in order to identify which muscles are causing your pain and ongoing discomfort. Your practitioner will then develop a program in order to help you with your presenting symptoms and ultimately your posture.

Biomesotherapy
BIOMESOTHERAPY (BMT) (Biopuncture) is a new type of therapy consisting of the use of homeopathic products and the stimulation of specific points of the body with a saline solution via injection. Most of the injections given are under the skin (subcutaneous) or in the muscles. Certain points such as Acupuncture and trigger points are used along with specific local pain points. Biomesotherapy is similar to Homeosinatry (Acupuncture combined with Homeopathy) and Nueraltherapy in its application however the difference lies in medicine injection points and depth of application, medicines used also differ.

Biomesotherapy stimulates what is known as the cutivisceral response. Oral homeopathic medicines are given simultaneously which focus on the organ or tissue requiring treatment. Upon application BMT stimulates your own body’s healing mechanisms speeding up the process of injury recovery and repair. It is very effective for PAIN relief and has been shown to be comparable to cortisone therapy without the added side affects. .

Biomesotherapy can complement chiropractic, physical and sports injury therapy’s or may be used on its own depending on the type of condition. It may be used to treat various sports injuries, muscular pain, arthritis, chronic pain, lower back pain, neck pain and other types of acute or chronic injuries. It is especially effective in acute injury’s and has been shown to decrease the duration of some sports injurys helping athletes resume their normal activity faster.

Homotoxicology
Homeopathy is a method of medical treatment designed to stimulate the body's own healing processes in order to cure illnesses. It is based upon the discovery that a substance in small doses may alleviate symptoms similar to those it causes at higher doses. The phrase ""likes are cured by likes"" is often used to describe a basic concept behind homeopathy.

Thus, the two cornerstones of homeopathy are that ""likes are cured by likes,"" and that the remedies are properly diluted to eliminate or minimize their toxic effects.

In homotoxicology, diseases are considered to be ultimately caused by toxins, whether toxic chemicals, bacterial exotoxins, biological endotoxins, post-traumatic cellular debris and also byproducts of the bodies metabolic processes. Furthermore, disease symptoms are said to be the result of the body's attempt to heal itself and should not necessarily be suppressed.

In Homotoxicology, homoeopathicaly manufactured combination products are designed to work with the body's defense mechanisms and facilitate the body's elimination of toxic substances. When used in combination formulations which contain measurable amounts of homeopathically-prepared active ingredients, they can be utilized by Physicans to treat specific indications. Combination homeopathic products in Homotoxicology are easy to understand and use for health care practitioners trained within the conventional medical paradigm, as well as those trained in nonconventional medicine.

Homotoxicology is a bridge between orthodox medicine which has a focus on tissue integrity and homoeopathy which has a focus on the systemic effects of imbalance within the person. Whether it Brauer Professionale an imbalance of thought, management of symptoms or lifestyle, Homotoxicology can provide a framework to understand its effect at the tissue level, furthermore it can provide health care solutions which may be used alone or used to complement orthodox treatment without drug interactions.

Understanding homotoxicology
Homotoxicology studies the influences of toxic substances in humans, where symptoms and disease are seen as a result of the appropriate biological resistance to these toxic substances (homotoxins). Homotoxicology views disease as a process within humans - and antihomotoxic preparations are therefore designed to deal with the distinct stages of an illness.

The guiding diagnostic and prescriptive tool used in homotoxicology is known as the Six-Phase Table. This table allows the allocation of symptoms to defined phases of the body's reaction thereby facilitates the choice of the appropriate medications.
