BIOPRACTICA CALCIFEDIOL D 90 TABLETS
Calcifediol vs Cholecalciferol
Cholecalciferol (vitamin D3) is the most common vitamin D supplement in Australia. In the bloodstream, cholecalciferol is converted into 25-hydroxyvitamin D or 25(OH)D, also known as calcifediol. A vitamin D blood test measures the level of 25(OH)D (calcifediol) in the blood.
Oral calcifediol is absorbed in the gut with high efficacy (93%) and it does not need to be converted in the liver. After intestinal absorption, it is transported directly to the bloodstream via the vena porta, whereas cholecalciferol uptake is more complex and occurs via the liver and lymph pathway.
Oral calcifediol is 3.2 times more potent than oral cholecalciferol, which results in a more rapid increase in serum
