Genes contain the vital information required to construct, regulate and maintain all bodily processes including protein synthesis. Proteins form the structural basis of our bodies and importantly, of chromosomes through which genetic information is passed on through inheritance. When it comes to health, scientists have learned that there are about 10 million points in the human genome which are of special significance. These points are called SNPs (Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms) and account for about 90% of all human genome variations.
