BLACK PEARL BP017 QI JU DI HUANG WAN LYCIUM, CHRYSANTHEMUM & REHMANNIA
Nourishes the Liver and Kidney Yin, nourishes the Liver Blood and sends Essence and Blood to the eyes.

Indications:
Chronic disorders of the eyes and vision (e.g. central retinochoroiditis, retrobulbar neuritis, optic nerve atrophy, vitreous opacity, glaucoma, retinal disorders, cataracts), migraine headaches, hypertension, Menieres disease.

Signs and Symptoms:
Dry and sore eyes, loss of visual acuity, excessive lacrimation, Photophobia, Dry mouth and throat, Thirst, Low back pain, Dizziness, Irritability, Tinnitus or hearing loss, Sensation of heat in palms and soles, Recurrent headaches, Sleep disturbance, Night sweats, Red cheeks, Red and dry tongue with little coat, Thready pulse that may also be rapid.

Actions of Main Herbs:
Lycium fruit is used orally in formulas for the treatment of low back pain, poor night vision, blurred vision, diabetes, premature white hair and debility due to chronic illness. It has been shown to improve and regulate the immune system, have anti-aging properties, lower blood lipids, protect liver function, prevent fatty liver, simulate estrogens, improve white blood cell count during chemotherapy, lower blood sugar and lower blood pressure. Chrysanthemum flower is used orally in formulas for the treatment of headache, dizziness, blurry vision, tears induced by exposure to wind, photophobia, chronic glaucoma, tinnitus, hearing loss, weak eye sight. It has been shown to have cardiotonic, anti-inflammatory, antibiotic and antipyretic actions.

Dosage and Course of Treatment:
8 – 12 pills, 3 times daily, half to one hour away from food.
In severe cases and in the early stages of treatment (first 2 – 4 weeks) the dosage may be increased by 50 – 100%.
Course of treatment: 3 – 9 months, or ongoing in elderly patients.
Safe for long term use.

Cataracts, degenerative eye diseases (e.g. macular degeneration): Qi Bao Mei Ran Dan (Polygonum & Cuscuta Formula BP057); Ming Mu Di Huang Wan (Rehmannia Formula to Brighten the Eyes BP075); Zuo Gui Wan (Left Returning Formula BP039);
Hypertension, glaucoma, migraine headaches: Tian Ma Gou Teng Wan (Gastrodia & Gambir Formula BP024); Yang Yin Jiang Ya Wan (Achyranthes & Cassia Seed Formula BP035).

Cautions and Contraindications:
Discontinue during an episode of common cold or influenza. Not for acute inflammatory eye diseases.
