Indications

Dosage & Course Of Treatment
8 pills, 3 times daily, half to one hour away from food.

Course of treatment: 2 – 6 months, or ongoing.

Cautions & Contraindications
Caution for those on anti-coagulant medications (i.e. heparin, warfarin or aspirin), cardiac glycosides (e.g. digoxin), oral hypoglycemic agents, insulin and phenelzine.

Discontinue during an episode of common cold or influenza.

Contains Panax ginseng; do not take caffeine containing beverages (e.g. tea, coffee, cola, guarana) or radishes concurrently with this formula.

Comments
This is a modern formulation that is based on traditional principles as well as modern research. It is designed to assist in the restoration of normal sexual functioning (including fertility) in cases with impotence, possibly also with low sperm count and motility. Loss of sexual functioning is due to deficiency of the Kidney Essence, and generally deficiency of the Yang aspect predominates. This leads to waning of the Fire of the Life Gate (ming men huo), together with insufficiency of the fluid secretions that are involved in reproduction. The former leads to difficulties with performance, while the later may lead to infertility. Deficiency of the Kidney Essence is a severe type of Kidney deficiency that may be caused by heredity, excessive sexual activity, lack of adequate nourishment after birth (in infants and children), chronic illness, excessive work or strenuous physical activity without adequate rest or sleep. The major part of the formula consists of herbs that nourish the Kidney Essence and warm-tonify the Kidney Yang. All of these ingredients have been shown – either individually or in various combinations – to promote sexual function. In addition, there are herbs that tonify the Qi and nourish the Blood. The Qi tonifying herbs promote the functional activities of the Spleen, which supports the replenishment of the Kidney Essence. The Blood nourishing herbs promote the function of the Liver (which ensures the smooth and even movement of the Qi and Blood throughout the body) as well as providing an additional substrate for the Kidney Essence. Kidney Yang and Essence deficiency may also be the underlying factor in long term disorders involving various body systems. Therefore, this formula is effective in treating many different chronic conditions, as described above. It may also be used as a general tonic, particularly in men over the age of 50, who have the clinical signs of Kidney Yang deficiency as depletion of the Kidney Yang and Essence is one of the major factors underlying the ageing process.
