CHINAMED LUNG FUNCTION 2 FORMULA FU ZHEN DING CHUAN FUNG

This is a modern empirical formula that has been developed to cover the commonly occurring deficiency syndromes that underlie chronic asthma or bronchitis, i.e. Kidney, Spleen and Lung deficiency. Patients may present with predominantly Yin deficiency signs and symptoms (i.e. thirst, dry mouth, night sweating, dry skin, red cheeks, red tongue and rapid pulse) or predominantly Qi deficiency features (i.e. fatigue, weak voice, susceptibility to colds, spontaneous perspiration, poor appetite, epigastric distension after meals, pale complexion, pale tongue and weak pulse) or a mixture of both.

In order to enhance clinical results, this formula may be combined with a more specific �constitutional� formula. Patients with a significant degree of Phlegm retention (productive cough, thick and greasy tongue coat) should use DIGESTIVE TONIC Formula (CM155) together with this formula.

Patients may need to take this formula periodically for several years (e.g. for 6 to 9 months each year) in order to improve the constitution and prevent or reduce the frequency of further acute episodes.

– Ziziphus jujuba, fruit 大棗 162.0 mg
– Rehmannia glutinosa, root 地黃 295.2 mg
– Codonopsis pilosula, root 黨參 147.6 mg
– Ophiopogon japonicus, tuber 麥冬 147.6 mg
– Cornus officinalis, fruit 山茱萸 147.6 mg
– Dioscorea oppositifolia, rhizome 山藥 147.6 mg
– Wolfiporia cocos, hyphae 茯苓 147.6 mg
– Inula britannica, flower 旋覆花 147.6 mg
– Epimedium brevicornu, herb 淫羊藿 147.6 mg
– Perilla frutescens, seed 紫蘇子 147.6 mg
– Citrus maxima, fruit peel 化橘紅 81.0 mg
– Glycyrrhiza uralensis, root 甘草 81.0 mg

Signs & Symptoms
– Cough, dyspnoea, shortness of breath worse for exertion
– Asthma, chronic (maintenance)
– Bronhitis, maintenance
– Dyspnoea

Dosage & Course of Treatment
– 3 – 4 capsules, 2 -3 times daily.
– In the early stages of treatment (first 2 – 4 weeks) the dosage may be increased by 50%.
– Course of treatment: 6 – 9 months, or until attacks become infrequent. Then follow with a constitutional formula (see Combinations below).

Cautions & Contraindications
– Avoid stimulants such as coffee, tea, guarana and cola containing drinks.
– Caution for those on anti-coagulant medications (i.e. Heparin, warfarin or aspirin).
– Contains Glycyrrhiza, which potentiates prednisone and corticosteroids by prolonging steroid biological half-life; caution in patients with hypertension.
